Position: Media and Analyst Relations Manager
Job Description: STEC, Inc. needs a highly motivated Media and Analyst Relations Manager to help define and drive our public voice and storytelling around our core technologies and products. This role requires extensive cross group collaboration, planning and executing on a variety of media and analyst engagements, including informal advisories, formal briefings, and executive presentations. Your role will be to manage the overall media and analyst agenda and overall thought leadership news. Working within Corporate and Marketing Communications and with technical product marketing managers, your responsibilities will include: Pitching stories and responding to media requests; Writing/by-lining contributed articles; Contributing to the development of messaging and writing of press releases; and coordinating the measurement of PR programs and activities. It is an incredibly strategic role for STEC, Inc. by helping to define effective media relations initiatives to help us drive our unfair share of mind in this dynamic market. § The ideal candidate will have strong media relations and issues management experience, demonstrated success as an organizational leader, and an aptitude for strategic planning and experience in driving successful media and analyst relations strategies. § Creating media and analyst relations programs to build & maintain ongoing relationships with this highly influential audience. § This position requires frequent contact with all levels of STEC, Inc. executives, managers, and employees as well as frequent contact with business and trade media, industry analysts, and public relations agencies. § This position requires excellent oral and written communications skills. § Working closely with product teams to develop analyst specific positioning and messages that result in positive analyst coverage and reviews. § Building and driving an integrated social media strategy to support media outreach efforts. § Understand business technology solutions and ability to translate them into communications strategies, messaging, etc. § Creating documentation for our customers/partner that explains all aspects of our technology. § Creative/technical writing on the usage and deployment of our technology through case studies, whitepapers and other content driven collateral via both print and web § Managing product announcements and visibility at major industry events. § Collaborating with fellow corporate marketing and communications team members to effectively articulate STEC, Inc. strategies and value propositions. § Providing guidance to geo marketing teams on local execution of media relations. § Candidates must be skilled and experienced in functioning effectively at that these levels, and be able to represent STEC effectively as a public spokesperson to the trade media and industry analyst community. § Success of this effort will be measured by the candidate’s impact on media and analyst report coverage, contribution to strategic, thought-leading program development and effective management of internal and agency resources to achieve plan objectives. Education and Experience Requirements: § An undergraduate B.A. or B.S. degree in marketing, communications, or journalism. § A minimum of 5-8 years of work experience in public relations, marketing, public affairs or journalism, and a strong background in storage technology, and flash memory markets, is a plus. § Strong communications skills § Sound technical knowledge § Genuine interest in industry trends § Ability to form trusting relationships § Experience in technology based media and analyst relations Language Skills: Ability to read, write and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and emails in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to internal customers and other employees of the organization. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
